Year after year the cost of healthcare steadily rises and very few individuals are financially prepared for a serious illness within their family. Even individuals with health insurance suffer financially from out-of-pocket healthcare expenses.

In an effort to help those in need of financial assistance, we have listed several websites that may provide additional information regarding financial assistance.**

Prescription Costs

If you don’t have prescription drug insurance, enroll in a prescription drug discount program such as the one offered by Medical Rewards Network. You can save an average of 20% off the retail price of prescriptions.

The Partnership for Prescription Assistance brings together America’s pharmaceutical companies, doctors, other health care providers, patient advocacy organizations and community groups to help qualifying patients who lack prescription coverage get the medicines they need through the public or private program that’s right for them. Visit Partnership for Prescription Assistance for additional information regarding assistance. Through this site, the Partnership for Prescription Assistance offers a single point of access to more than 475 public and private patient assistance programs, including more than 180 programs offered by pharmaceutical companies.

Cancer Patients

Anyone who has ever had to deal with cancer knows the staggering financial burdens this disease imposes on both patients and their families. In many cases, private or corporate health insurance plans cover at least a portion of the cost. But, for patients without health insurance, financial assistance from both government and private organizations is available.

Helpful sites for cancer patients and their families:

American Cancer Society

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

The Cleft Palate Foundation provides links to numerous organizations that can provide financial assistance for the treatment of a cleft palate. For additional information regarding the services available, please visit www.cleftline.org/publications/financial_assist.

Additional Financial Resources:

Short and long-term financial assistance is also available from many sources, including private and government agencies. You may be surprised by the services available and the enthusiasm with which others embrace your needs.

Explore these private organizations:

  • Charitable foundations
  • Disease or disability related organizations
  • Civic or social welfare associations
  • Churches and community groups

Although not all provide financial aid, they may be able to direct you to other sources and services that can help you or a family member.

Government organizations can also assist. You don't need to be at poverty level to qualify; you may, in fact, be eligible for programs you never knew existed. Two such government programs that supplement the health insurance of a chronically or seriously ill child are Medicaid and Supplemental Security Income (SSI).

**Note: Medical Rewards Network has created this list of resources in an effort to provide those in need with a possible contact for financial assistance. Medical Rewards Network does not endorse any particular program offered by these organizations.
